Welcome to the
2nd Annual TTC Utility Investigation School
The Trenchless Technology Center (TTC) at Louisiana Tech University in conjunction with the ASCE's Utility Engineering and Surveying Institute (UESI) have teamed to hold the second TTC UIS School in 2018. This short course will give practitioners the knowledge and tools to provide competent utility investigations in accordance with accepted national standards (ASCE 38) and to defend against claims through this knowledge and its documentation. In addition to the classroom lectures, practical sessions will be held where participants will be offered hands-on experience with the GPR, PCL, and etc. This 5-day school will be taught by the foremost experts in the geophysics and subsurface utility engineering field.
Utility Investigation is a major component of Utility Engineering. The definition of Utility Engineering is: "Utility Engineering is a branch of Civil Engineering that focuses on the planning, design, construction, operation, maintenance, and asset management of any and all utility systems, as well as the interaction between utility infrastructure and other civil infrastructure."
Who Should Attend
This 5-day school has been designed for:
Engineers and surveyors and project managers providing deliverables that include results and depictions of utility investigations.
Consulting engineers, employees of utility companies, state DOTs, and local highway agencies, regulatory agencies, local governments, etc.
At the end of this short course, students will receive 4 CEUs - 40 PDHs and a Certificate of Completion.
The use of Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) for utility locating will be taught at the first day of the school. It will cover GPR theory and factors affecting GPR penetration. A major component of this course is field experience, users will learn to set up the experiment and proper surveying techniques (Line Scan and Grid Scan), including the use of GPS. Data will be downloaded and reviewed in the software, along with various data outputs and reports. Case studies and data interpretation will also be taught.
